Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
Other people have probably given their thoughts on this saying, attributed to Thomas Jefferson, but I hope you will forgive me for repeating it as it’s one of my favourite maxims. Or it would be if only I could stick to it. Well, we lead such busy lives, don’t we?
I always put letters and papers on a pile in the corner of the table when I’ve read them. I don’t put them in the drawer where they will finally end up, just in case they need a reply, because I know that once they are put away they’ll definitely be forgotten about. Of course, what I should do, is deal with them straightaway, but there always seems to be something more pressing that I need to do instead.
The other day I was rooting through the pile when I found a catalogue statement that I had been intending to check since it had arrived, but had just not got round to it. If only I’d sorted it out when I’d first received it, I wouldn’t have had to pay the charges that they’d now applied.
So, New Year’s resolution, for next year: be more organised, deal with things as soon as. Don’t put them off till tomorrow, because tomorrow never… but that’s a different saying.
